She specializes in the fields of personal and workplace stress, focusing mainly on helping people manage anxiety, phobias, and trauma.
Drawing on her background in both teaching and psychology, Merryn aims to provide her audiences with simple, practical skills to enable them to embark on a more enjoyable and rewarding lifestyle.
She has earned a Bachelor of Special Education, starting as a primary teacher before graduating from Monash University with a Master of Psychology, and has also trained in Clinical Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Mediation, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mediation and Community Conferencing, and Bereavement Counselling.
Responsible for introducing the Makaton vocabulary and Auslan signing into special schools in Victoria, she has also served as a special education consultant in primary schools and as a Victorian Education Department representative on the Makaton Vocabulary Development Program Committee.
Now as a Member of the Australia Psychological Society (MAPS), Merryn hit the ground running as a counselling psychologist, starting a private practice, and also working in the corporate sector, for organizations including VicRoads, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV), and the Australia Federal Police.
Always compassionate, Merryn counselled Bali bombing survivors in 2002, traffic monitoring staff and bridge workers after the Westgate Bridge tragedy in 2007, and those working to re-open roads after the 2007 Victorian bushfires – many of whom lost friends, family, and property in the fires.
In addition to being interviewed on both ABC and commercial radio about anxiety and arachnophobia, she has been a presenter in arachnophobia workshops held at the Melbourne Zoo, and a presenter at Anxiety Disorders Association Victoria workshops. She has also recorded the hypnosis-based series the PEARLS of Resilience as well as hypnosis CDs that help listeners sleep better without drugs, prepare their mindset for day trading,manage panic attacks, spider phobia, resolve their fear of flying, and stop smoking.
Embracing the richness of life and business, Merryn’s travels have taken her to more than 25 countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, England, Scotland, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Fiji. She has also travelled extensively throughout Australia.
