It is not uncommon for perfectly rational people to be extremely frightened of spiders. For some, the fear can cause feelings of panic and even physical signs of distress.
Merryn Snare (an experienced, registered psychologist), leads the sessions using a variety of different approaches to reach different people. In our program, solution oriented counselling is used together with the deep relaxation of hypnotherapy to explore problems and solutions. Hypnosis is a natural and safe process during which participants remain in control of their actions, whilst gaining a deeper insight into their thought processes. Hypnosis does not impede memory, and participants will be able to remember everything that occurred during the hypnotic relaxation process.
Patrick Honan, an invertebrate specialist, will provide both an informative and accurate insight into the behaviours of spiders, and will answer any questions participants may have about spiders.
The five and a half hour session is relaxed and welcoming with group discussion and sharing of experiences encouraged throughout.
The session will be held in a private function room for a group of no more than fifteen people at a time. The program aims to give people the skills to understand their fear and to be in control of themselves within their environment.
